Zappeion Megaron is the work of Danish architect Theophil Hansen. It was exclusively constructed for the Olympic Games in 1896 and was a novelty for that era. The construction was completed on 20 November 1874 and inaugurated on 20 October 1888. The structure was funded by the Greek fighter of 1821, the businessman, the philanthropist and the national benefactor, Evangelos Zappas. Zappeio, as also called, is one of the most important buildings in the city of Athens and is located in the National Gardens. Today it is used for exhibitions and ceremonies.
