Areios Pagos Rock

In ancient times, the Areios Pagos was the place where the judiciary functioned. Since 462 BC cases of premeditated murder, arson and sacrilege were judged in the Areios Pagos. It is located northwest of the Acropolis of Athens and 115 meters in height from sea level. Its name probably comes from Mars, the god of war in Greek mythology. The view of the city of Athens is excellent from this rocky hill. Here Apostle Paul preached Christianity in 51 AD for the first time.
